We begin by asking what makes a good version of an ordinary product genuinely good. We investigate materials, construction, specifications, standards, warranties, repairability and the failures owners report repeatedly.
What we do not pretend
Research is not the same as hands-on testing. When we have not personally tested a product, we say so. We do not invent experts, measurements, laboratory results or personal experience.
How recommendations work
Our buying criteria are written before products are selected. A recommendation must satisfy the guide’s criteria. Commission opportunities do not set the editorial standard.
